From 1 July 2025, the income requirements for sponsoring skilled migrants will rise. These changes align with national wage growth and are designed to ensure skilled migration supports—not undercuts—Australian workers.
If you’re an employer planning to sponsor skilled overseas talent, or a skilled worker looking to apply for a visa, it’s critical to understand how these updated thresholds may affect your application.
🔍 Why the Income Thresholds Are Changing
As part of the Australian Government’s Migration Strategy and the recommendations from the Migration Review, income thresholds for skilled visa categories will now be indexed annually in line with Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE).
This 4.6% increase ensures skilled migrant wages keep pace with Australian workforce earnings—supporting fairness and transparency in skilled migration.
💼 What Are the New Thresholds from 1 July 2025?
Here are the updated skilled visa income thresholds effective from 1 July 2025:
- Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT)
- 📈 From AUD 73,150 ➡️ AUD 76,515
- Applies to:
- Skills in Demand Visa (subclass 482) – Core Skills stream
- Employer Nomination Scheme Visa (subclass 186)
- Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT)
- 📈 From AUD 135,000 ➡️ AUD 141,210
- Applies to:
- Skills in Demand Visa (subclass 482) – Specialist Skills stream
- Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)
- 📈 From AUD 73,150 ➡️ AUD 76,515
- Applies to:
- Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional Visa (subclass 494)
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187)
⚖️ Which Applications Will Be Affected?
✅ New nomination applications lodged on or after 1 July 2025 must meet the updated threshold or the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR)—whichever is higher.
🚫 These changes will not apply to:
- Existing visa holders
- Nomination applications lodged before 1 July 2025
📌 Why This Matters
For employers:
- These changes mean reviewing salary offers to ensure they meet the new CSIT, SSIT, or TSMIT levels.
For visa applicants:
- Your eligibility may now depend on meeting a higher salary threshold. Planning ahead is essential to avoid delays or refusals.
