The Subclass 190 visa is a state-nominated permanent residence visa for skilled professionals who meet Australia’s workforce needs. If you have the qualifications, work experience, and language ability—and you’re nominated by a state or territory government—this visa opens the door to permanent life in Australia.
✅ What You Can Do With This Visa
With the 190 visa, you can:
- Live and work in Australia permanently
- Study at any Australian institution
- Access Medicare, the public healthcare system
- Sponsor eligible family members
- Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
- Travel to and from Australia for 5 years from the visa grant date
🕰️ Visa Duration
This is a permanent visa, which means:
- If you’re inside Australia when the visa is granted, you become a permanent resident on the grant date
- If you’re outside Australia at the time of visa grant, your permanent residency begins when you first enter
The visa comes with a 5-year travel facility. After that, you’ll need a Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155 or 157) to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident.
👨👩👧👦 Can You Include Family?
Yes. You can include your partner and dependent children in the application. You may:
- Add them when you lodge your application
- Or add them after lodging but before a decision is made
All family members included must meet health and character requirements. If you’re not including them, you must state why.
🌐 Where You Can Apply From
You can apply from inside or outside Australia, as long as you’re not in immigration clearance at the time of application or decision.
If applying from within Australia, you must hold one of the following:
- A substantive visa
- A Bridging visa A (Subclass 010), B (Subclass 020), or C (Subclass 030)
